Krems Badearena’s New Topography
Neue Badearena is undergoing construction, until 2026, in Krems an der Donau. A project that is immersed in a neighboring UNESCO site, yet it lacks resolution of an ongoing connection issue between the city and its riverfront. In collaboration with Tyler Hebert, this project is intended to elevate the landscape of the Neue Badearena to create scenic views from the sunbathing lawns while generating space beneath to discreetly accommodate a parking garage.
A new bridge reconnects Krems with its riverfront, linking the Neue Badearena and its parking structure with the Stadtpark. This not only offers an attractive and direct route for pedestrians and cyclists from the city to the Badearena, but also provides an easy way to park at the city’s edge and walk into the center - reducing inner-city traffic. The parking garage also functions as a strategic piece of infrastructure for large events along the Danube riverbank, an area envisioned as a much more active and lively public space in the near future with the support of a new defined gathering space. Furthermore, extending the pedestrian and bike bridge across the river to Mautern can further connect Krems to its surrounding landscapes and communities.
